Logic Factor Puzzles
Teaching the mechanical procedure of cross-multiplication to determine equal ratios, does not promote proportional reasoning — Logic Factor Puzzles does! Students will learn how numbers are related instead of doing rote memorization while solving the 96 challenging puzzles and word problems offered in Logic Factor Puzzles.
Logic Factor Puzzles are designed to give students a head start in algebra. This application supports a student’s understanding of factors and their relevance in solving proportion problems. Recognizing the relationship of factors in these puzzles gives students the foundation for developing proportional reasoning.
The students will be challenged to solve puzzles and apply their skills to word problems. As they use the strategies to solve the puzzles, they will discover how easily they can solve the word problems. As students make connections, they begin to see that mathematics is more than a series of isolated skills. Seeing these relationships between skills and concepts develops mathematical understanding. This understanding allows students to see how useful and relevant mathematics is.
This thought process builds the foundation for algebra word problems on the college entrance exam. Recognizing the relationship of factors in these puzzles gives students the foundation for developing proportional reasoning.
